INSTANT IMPACT . . . Danny Philliskirk has scored three goals in six games since joining Blackpool.
DANNY Philliskirk is not expecting an attacking feast in tonight’s crucial battle between both clubs he has played for this season.
After pulling a goal back and going close to adding at least another for Blackpool in their 3-2 home loss to Shrewsbury on Saturday, the man transferred to the coast in exchange for £75,000 a month ago was left cursing a poor start which cost the Seasiders ground in their attempt to pull clear of the bottom four.
The Shrews’ victory at Bloomfield Road saw them pull level on 33 points with Blackpool — leaving both clubs eight points better off then Athletic.
That is not enough of a gap for comfort for Philliskirk (24), who has already scored three goals from six appearances for his new club, for a season’s total of 10. Shrewsbury scored three times in the opening 29 minutes on Saturday to put an end to Blackpool’s four-match unbeaten run.
The key at home for Pool tonight, Philliskirk argues, lies in starting quickly.
“We now go into the Oldham game and have to go all guns blazing,” Philliskirk said.
“I had a good few years there, but more importantly they are down the bottom with us. It’s important we get some points.
“They are a decent team with some decent players so we can't underestimate them. We need to start the game better and if we do I'm sure we'll get something from the game.
“John Sheridan has got them organised. They've had some good results lately and have shown real improvement.”
Jim McAllister and Hayden White are both set for recalls for Neil McDonald’s side.
Both men missed out against Shrewsbury, having succumbed to illness before the previous game, but are in line to return for this game of significance near the bottom of League One.
Philliskirk, who has been operating on the left of midfield in his last two outings, is expected to revert to playing as part of a front two.
