Everything is clicking into place

THERE is still an awfully long way to go this season, but things are definitely looking up.

I said in this column a few weeks ago that after a tough period, it was important we took the draw at Wigan and built on it. In the last few games, that's exactly what we have done.

It isn't just that results are coming in, either. We are playing really well; both as a team and individually, it seems everything has clicked into place.

John Sheridan said when he came in that we have good players at the club and that we shouldn’t be where we are in the table. Silly mistakes had been costing us at the back, but it's fair to say Anthony Gerrard has had a big influence in shoring things up defensively.

Matty Palmer has been really good in midfield and, up front, the new strikers have added to what we already had.

The gaffer knows the lower divisions really well and, clearly, he had men in mind he felt he could bring in to have an effect. The quality the new players have brought is showing on the pitch; and they have all settled really well into the squad.

Dominic Poleon and Mike Jones are still to come back and if you look at the bench, there are some real options available. We are in a good place right now.

Scunthorpe is another tough game tomorrow, but if we play the way we have shown we are capable of, there’s no reason we can't collect another three points.

The standard in training is up there and there is a buzz around the place again. Long may it continue.
