GOAL . . . Curtis Main
BARNSLEY 2, ATHLETIC 1
SAM Winnall's late penalty denied Athletic a point at Oakwell.
Curtis Main had levelled in the 68th minute of an end-to-end clash with a smart finish for his third in as many outings.
But Winnall, who headed play-off chasing Barnsley into a 45th-minute lead from a corner kick, had the last laugh after twice hitting the woodwork. He converted after Tareiq Holmes-Dennis had brought down Adam Hammill in the area in the 83rd minute.
Athletic twice had to reshuffle in the first half due to early injuries to Carl Winchester and his replacement Brian Wilson, the latter taking a knee to the head from goalkeeper Joel Coleman.
The home side went close on a number of occasions and in the end, despite a bold approach, John Sheridan wasn't able to add to the run of three straight wins.
