WILL Haining has been appointed as joint-caretaker manager at Ashton United.
The 33-year-old former Athletic skipper is in charge of affairs at the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League outfit along with fellow senior player Jody Banim, following the departure of Paul Phillips and Steven Halford to Stalybridge Celtic.
And Haining's former Boundary Park colleague Richie Wellens is also embarking on a new chapter in local non-league circles.
Released by Shrewsbury, Wellens (36) played his first game for Vanarama National League North side Salford City at the weekend.
The midfielder came off the bench in the second half in a 2-2 home draw with Halifax in a game played in front of a crowd of 2,049 at Moor Lane.
ANNUAL car par permits for next to the North Stand have sold out.
Fans without a permit should park in the hospital car park, next to B&Q, on match days.
