A BROWNIE guider from Failsworth has been handed the ultimate award in guiding.

Kirsty Deakin (25) has won the Queen’s Guide Award, which involves embarking on a series of challenges to develop personal skills and become more involved in guiding and the community over a three-year period.

Kirsty was presented with the award by Girlguiding Manchester’s commissioner Mel Price who said: “Kirsty has worked really hard for this award and made a difference in the lives of many girls and young women. To gain her award she chose to lead an area-wide peer education group, organised events, led residential events for brownies and completed a personal exploration. All this as well as working and studying — a fantastic achievement.”

Kirsty said: “I’m really proud to have completed the award. It presented new challenges to me and got me much more involved in the community. I have been a member of Girlguiding UK since I joined rainbows aged five and it has been great to move through all the age groups and share the things I have learnt.”
