Rugby club backs royal’s award scheme

YOUNGSTERS from Failsworth and Limeside are embarking on an award-winning adventure — the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
The launch of the scheme took place at Farm Road Youth Club, and PCSO Sam Kent-Brown, the area assessor, was delighted with the response from young people and volunteers.
She said: “The award gives young people the chance to give something back to society, learn new skills and get out of the area to enjoy expeditions.”
Oldham Rugby League chairman Chris Hamilton has announced the rugby club is backing the initiative.
Mr Hamilton said: “I have a great belief in the benefits that young people can get from the Duke of Edinburgh awards, which build self-esteem, self-confidence and self-belief, often in young people who might otherwise have none of those qualities.”
Volunteer helpers and leaders are still being urged to support the initiative. Free introductory training will be given and a free CRB check provided.
Call PCSO Kent-Brown on 0161-856 8914 to pledge your support or join the scheme, which costs £14.50.
