Driver in canal plunge riddle

MYSTERY surrounds the whereabouts of a motorist who drove a car into Failsworth Canal on Monday morning.

Firefighters and police were called to Sisson Street at 2.02am following reports of a silver Ford Focus in the water.

Police believe the driver lost control of the car and went through a fence before plunging into the canal.

A specialist water unit searched the area but no-one was found in the water or in the vehicle.

Police were unable to confirm the car was stolen.
