Rubbish fire

POLICE are appealing for the community to help stamp out anti-social behaviour after youths started a rubbish fire in Limeside Park.


A spokesman for Hollins Fire Station explained that this type of fire can be a problem in the area, but it is the first of its type for several weeks.


YOUNGSTERS are invited to a National Playday event at Copster Park, Hollins Road, tomorrow. Anybody aged 14 or under can attend between 1 and 4pm for arts, Olympic-themed crafts, football, games and face-painting. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.


FAILSWORTH Townswomen’s Guild have gone snap-happy this month. The women held a photography competition at their last general meeting, which was won by chairman, Audrey Barlow. Members will be getting together for their next general meeting on September 4, at Failsworth Town Hall, between 7.30 and 10pm. For more information, contact the Guild on 0161-684 8258.


FOOTBALL fans looking to burn off some excess energy can attend a kickabout every day throughout the summer break. Youngsters aged eight to 18 who want to get fit, have fun with their mates or just pass some time can use the 3G pitches at Failsworth Soccer Centre, Brierley Avenue, between 9am and 5pm every day. SAVE a life at a blood donation session in Failsworth. The next session will be held on Friday, August 10 at the Holy Family Church on Lord Lane. Locals wanting to donate can attend between 1.15 and 3.30pm or 5.15 and 7.30pm.
