Residents gather around the Christmas tree
Hollinwood residents were out in force for the Christmas lights switch-on last night, despite the chilly conditions.
They sang carols around the Christmas tree at the Roxy Cinema site as they waited for Chaddy the Owl to perform the ceremony. They also enjoyed a lantern parade and later free refreshments at the Gardeners Rest in Hollins Road.
Other switch-ons will take place in Chadderton, Failsworth, Royton and Shaw.
Chadderton’s annual Christmas market and Shaw’s lights switch-on take place tomorrow, while Failsworth folk are asked to gather at Failsworth Pole for a 7pm switch-on on Friday, December 7. Royton’s Christmas lights go on tonight at 6.30, — don’t forget to visit Santa in his grotto in the Railway pub.
