Carnival capers

GLAMOROUS grans and gorgeous grandads can now apply for a place in one of this year’s Failsworth Carnival competitions which also include Failsworth in Bloom and Failsworth Top Dog for beavers, rainbows, cubs and brownies.

“ROOM 101” is the theme for tomorrow’s meeting of the Failsworth and Beyond (FaB) WI at the Middleton and Chadderton Sea Cadets Unit, 265a Oldham Road, Failsworth, 7.30pm. Raffle and refreshments. New members welcome. 0161-627 5782/682 1867.
GET independent help and advice on a range of topics at a Citizens’ Advice drop-in session on Friday at Limehurst Library, St Chad’s Centre, Limegreen Parade, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
GREEN-FINGERED residents should head to a plant and garden equipment sale and coffee morning on Saturday at Roman Road Independent Methodist Church, Failsworth, from 10am to noon. Refreshments available.
A TOTAL of £671 was raised after a floral art demonstration and raffle by Kathleen Williams, of the Oldham Floral Art Society, at Daisy Nook Country Park. The money will go to the Christie Allsorts, who are hoping to raise £10,000 to go towards a Mobile Chemotherapy Unit for the Christie Hospital.
A FUND-RAISING football match between Home Guard FC seniors and veterans takes place at the Lancaster Club in Broadway, from 10.30am on Sunday for the British Heart Foundation. A fun day including a penalty shootout, raffle, face-painting and more takes place afterwards at Home Guard Club, Poplar Street, Failsworth.
