Picnic time

BRING your favourite teddy bear and blanket to the last Teddy Bears Picnic of the summer today at Grassroots Community Project, Marlborough Drive, 11am to 1pm. £1.50 a child.
BUDDING bookworms are in for a treat when they take part in Oldham Council’s Summer Reading Challenge at Failsworth Library, Oldham Road, on Thursday, from 2 to 3.30pm. Enjoy a Creepy House activity session with professional storyteller Susanna Meese, story-making and craft activities. For children aged four to 11.
JOIN the Over 60s Thursday Club this week at The Pavilion, Green Lane, Garden Suburb, from 2 to 3.45pm. The social group meet every fortnight and host occasional guest speakers. All welcome.
A GRANT of £158,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has been awarded to St Margaret and St Chad’s Church, Chapel Road, Hollinwood. The money will go towards the restoration of the West Window by the famous Belgian stained glass painter Jean-Baptiste Cappronier, as well as the restoration and re-roofing of the south chancel and Lady Chapel roofs.
IT’S back to the books on Tuesday, September 3 for students at Failsworth School, Brierley Avenue, as the school term begins after the summer break, while Oasis Academy Oldham students start on Wednesday, September 4.
MAKE a date in your diary for a craft and activity evening on Wednesday, September 3, with the Failsworth and Beyond Womens Institute at the Middleton and Chadderton Sea Cadets, 265a Oldham Road, 7 to 9.30pm. Make a candle, knit, sew or play board games.
FAILSWORTH Youth Group meets at Failsworth Salvation Army, Oldham Road, every Friday (7.30-9.30pm). The youngsters, aged 13 and over, make a valuable contribution to the church as well as having fun and making friends. Ring 0161-682 0070 for more details.
