Wham-bam Cam’s extreme backlash

THE FRIDAY THING

DAVID Cameron could not have made it any clearer: he is pledging a full-blown RAF offensive -effectively a war - against ISIS targets in Syria and Iraq in the autumn.

Has he, I wonder, considered the likely response from those who share extremist views and are persuaded a counter attack on British civilians will almost certainly follow?

What a pity it is that the call to war has not turned into a war for peace in these troubled times. A lot of enthusiasm for war is shared by pupils in schools across the globe and it is a pity that schools have not used the opportunity to demonstrate to their students the unacceptable horror of such violence. Schools, be they Christian, Muslim, Jewish or any other denomination, should have a big part to play in steering their charges away from acts of terror.

Bombing young Muslims is no way of encouraging positive views about the West. But it might encourage more of the attacks that blighted Tunisia and cost too many lives.
