The Gramotones are no more! But don’t panic: Oldham’s multi-talented quartet Jake Fletcher, Sid Cooper, Ryan Comac and James Cardus have simply changed the band’s name to Cupids
Fletcher told me a while back a change of direction was coming, but fans were surprised when the new name was posted on the band’s Facebook feed.
There will be two more gigs as the Gramotones before Cupids take over. Check em out at www.cupidsband.com, where there’s also a new track, “A Study in Extremes”.
OLDHAM indie rockers OK Broken have begun filming their roles in a new project. “Invisible”.
Alongside fellow bands Red Light Effect and The Moods, vocalist Kolega Adamson and comedian Smug Roberts, among others, Gaz Wright, David Furnival, Adam Heap and Phil McArdle will feature extensively in a full-length video feature film about the plight of homeless people in the area.
Check out OK Broken’s Facebook page for updates.
TEENAGE hopefuls the Recreation have announced forthcoming gigs. On August 22 the Oldham youngsters play Manchester’s Retro Bar; on August 30 they’re at Royton Band Club; on September 12 they play the Engine Rooms in Skelmersdale and later that month are at The Swan and Railway in WIgan.
ROYTON mod prospects the Frakes have celebrated a first gig with a slightly tweaked line-up.
The lads belted out some top tunes at the Railway last weekend in support of the Micradotts, and new bassist Charlie Whittaker joined the other for the first time. Former bassist Jacob Simpson now plays rhythm guitar in the four-strong line-up.
