Enjoy a full day in York with 6 hours free time to explore this magnificent city. Maybe visit one of York’s many historic attractions (suggestions listed below) or meander through The Shambles and City Centre shops.
York Minster dating back to medieval times, this splendid Church of England cathedral features magnificent 14th- and 15th-century stained glass, stonework and elaborate tombs (entry fee applies)
The Shambles is a street in the city centre of York with a long and interesting past. Dating Back to Medieval times it was once the street of the Butcher Shops. Today the Shambles is Europe's most visited street.
National Railway Museum a must-see for railroad buffs, this museum celebrates railways from the 1820s to the present day (free entry)
York Castle Museum a living-history museum, which features everyday life during Victorian and Edwardian England in fine detail (entry fee applies)
York City Walls over 2 miles in length and with a history stretching back nearly 2000 years, the walls of York are amongst the finest preserved historic monuments anywhere in the world. They enclose an area of 263 acres and still retain all four of their impressive gateways into the city, called bars, as well as 34 of their 39 interval towers.
