Luke is in with a chance

LUKE Adamson, who hurt a shoulder against Rochdale and was withdrawn from the firing line just after half-time, has a "good chance" of playing when Oldham RL Club set off on their all-important Championship Shield campaign next week.

The former Salford and Dewsbury Rams forward, one of three Roughyeds players to cross the Rochdale line without scoring, had treatment on Tuesday night when he was assessed by club physiotherapist Patrick Hoyte.

Also under review were Matty Wilkinson, who damaged an ankle in the previous game against Sheffield, and Liam Thompson, who has been out for nearly three weeks with a sternum injury which was initially hampering his breathing.

"All three could be right for the next game," said Hoyte.

"Adamson and Wilkinson each has a good chance and I would hope 'Thompy' (Thompson) could make it too. I saw him on Tuesday night and he's certainly getting better."

News from London Broncos, where Roughyeds' on-loan Kameron Pearce-Paul is recovering from a sternum injury under the wing of his parent club, is also positive.

He too is expected to be ready in time as Oldham look ahead to the first of what chairman Chris Hamilton has described as "seven cup finals" in the battle to stay up.

Oldham play Dewsbury, Toulouse and Bradford at Bower Fold and Swinton, Rochdale, Batley and Sheffield away.

The RFL were due to release details of first-round games today, followed by the other six rounds on Monday, if not before.
