Deakin unsure over Barrow
Date published: 09 July 2008
ROUGHYEDS coach Steve Deakin isn't sure how Barrow will respond to their first setback of the season.
Raiders’ 15-10 loss at lowly Hunslet brought to an end a 13-match unbeaten league run last week, and Deakin believes the defeat will have some sort of impact.
"We also go into the game in the knowledge that Barrow will now know they aren't invincible," Deakin said,
"That could go two ways. Either it could shake the lethargy out of them, or it could affect their confidence.
"I guess the proof of the pudding will be in the result come nine o'clock on Friday night.
"But this is certainly a game we are relishing."
The Oldham RL Heritage Trust has teamed up with the Rugby League Heritage Centre to show off some important pieces from the club's past — at the birthplace of the sport.
The famous George Hotel, Huddersfield, holds this permanent exhibition, which was the brain child of prominent Sky Sports personality Mike Stephenson.
And now, it has a special loaned Oldham RLFC showcase.
The Gillette-sponsored centre plots the history of the sport and its personalities, with hundreds of photographs in both the exhibition room and the whole of the ground floor of the hotel, many with Oldham connections.
In addition the room in which 21 rugby clubs, including Oldham, met to discuss their destiny in 1895 is also open to the public.
