SAID Tamghart could be about to provide Oldham with a huge boost ahead of tomorrow night’s home game with Doncaster.
The 27-year-old French star, regularly described by his coach Steve Deakin as the most effective impact prop outside of Super League, missed the Roughyeds’ defeat in Barrow with a knee injury.
It was picked up the previous week at Workington in a clash with Scott Burgess which ended both men’s participation and Tamghart’s initial prospects for this week’s game weren’t too promising.
However, the former UTC man trained as normal last night and, provided he suffers no adverse reaction, will come back onto the bench for Oldham for the must-win fixture at Boundary Park which is being televised live by Sky Sports.
As for the long-term injured, there is no further update on Tommy Grundy, while Adam Robinson is waiting for a scan on his knee injury. The hope is that the pair could yet play a part this season, unlike unfortunate winger Ben Seru.
Injured early on his Oldham debut against Wakefield after signing a two-year deal, the Army winger has sustained substantial damage to his knee and the club is in the process of arranging an operation which will end his campaign.
RFL representatives meet with National League club officials today in Halifax to discuss possible changes to the fixture format from next season.
Included on the agenda will be a number of scenarios for altering the structure of the Challenge Cup, which has attracted disappointing crowds in its earlier rounds.
Reserves coaching duo Leo Casey and John Hough could be turning back the clock at Featherstone tonight (7.30pm kick off).
The pair may be forced to play due to a number of absentees.
Said Tamghart’s brother Mohammed has had to return to France after impressing in his first run-out in the centres for the second team, Phil Jagger is still suspended and BARLA tours and holidays have also had an adverse impact on numbers.
