Nanyn still leading the points tally

TOP goal kicker Mick Nanyn may be looking on nervously following Danny Halliwell's superb double-effort from the touchline late on against Barrow — but he has the consolation of still being way ahead as the leading points scorer in the country.

The fractured thumb sustained by Nanyn in the 18-10 defeat by Doncaster seven days ago is likely to rule him out for the rest of the regular National League Two season.

It means that the all-time Oldham record of 412 in a season, set by Bernard Ganley in 1958, is almost certainly out of reach for Nanyn (now on 346), regardless of whether the club ends up in the play-offs.

However, the 26-year-old is easily in front of nearest rival in 2008, Wigan's Pat Richards (317), in the overall points stakes.

Nanyn is set to be the only Roughyeds player to play in the World Cup, as his name should appear when Scotland's line-up is announced.

But Steve McCormack, Nanyn's former coach at Widnes and Whitehaven who is in charge of the national team, has controversially followed the lead of England counterpart Tony Smith in not yet naming a provisional 40-man squad for the tournament in Australia.

Ticket news

ADVANCE tickets are available for this Sunday's away game at Swinton Lions at Sedgley Park.

Roughyeds fans can buy seat tickets for the game (£14.50 adults, £8.50 concessions) from the club office on Lansdowne Road, Chadderton (0161) 6283677.

Swinton season ticket holders will have first call on seats in the one small stand and as only a limited number will be available to Oldham, supporters are urged to buy in advance.

Swinton hope to attract one of their biggest attendances of the season and are organising a family fun day, starting at 1pm. Children will be admitted free with a paying adult.

Kits auction

THE PINK kits worn by the Oldham squad during the televised home win over Doncaster a month ago are currently available to bid for on Ebay.

Each member of the 17, plus Roary the Roughyed, have put up their full one-off kit for auction on-line, with all proceeds going to charity. To take a look or place a bid, go to www.ebay.co.uk and perform a search for Oldham RLFC.
