Abrupt end to Brown loan

MICHAEL BROWN, the centre who has impressed so much in his two games for the Roughyeds since joining on a month’s loan, has been sent back to Huddersfield Giants as a disciplinary measure.

Mystery surrounds the reasoning behind the decision, with the club refusing to elaborate, but it comes as a shock following a particularly promising display from the Leeds-based 21-year-old in the 38-20 win at Swinton at the weekend.

“This is an internal matter and there will be no further comment from the club,” said chief executive Chris Hamilton in a statement.

Brown, who has Super League experience with the Giants, had come up with two tries in as many games since arriving at Oldham and had formed the beginnings of a very productive left-wing partnership with Lucas Onyango.

The club confirmed that in normal circumstances, moves would have been made to attempt to secure Brown’s services for any play-off campaign that follows the final regular-season home match against Workington Town at Boundary Park this Sunday.

The decision to send Brown back to the Galpharm Stadium does not in any way effect the other loan signing from the same club, second row forward James Martin.

Meanwhile, three Roughyeds reserve team players are up before the RFL disciplinary panel tonight.

Mohammed Tamghart, Phil Jagger and Ben Heaton have been charged with punching at Grades E, D and C respectively against Barrow earlier this month.

Tamghart, a 21-year-old centre, faces the heaviest punishment of up to an eight-match ban.

Jagger is looking at up to five matches and Heaton four.

OLDHAM official Robert Hicks has been named as reserve touch judge for the Carnegie Challenge Cup final between St Helens and Hull FC at Wembley later this month.
