LUKE MENZIES will stick with the Roughyeds right through to the end of the season.
A deal has been struck with the on-loan prop forward’s parent club Hull KR which allows the 20-year-old to play his part in Oldham’s promotion push.
Menzies’ most recent loan spell at the club, his second such stint of the season, had expired following the final regular-season National League Two game against Workington Town.
The powerfully-built youngster will now be available for selection by coach Steve Deakin as the club aims towards Grand Final glory.
“Luke has done well since he came here,” said Roughyeds chief executive Chris Hamilton. “He has good habits, benefits from training in a full-time environment and will be very useful for us between now and the end of the season.
“He is a valuable member of the squad and what’s more, he enjoys his rugby here. We are delighted that he will now be with us until the end of the season.”
With a number of players set to return to fitness soon, it is doubtful that a similar arrangement will be made with Huddersfield’s remaining on-loan second row forward James Martin.
Doncaster, the Roughyeds’ opponents in a qualifying play-off tie at Boundary Park on Sunday week, rounded off their season with a resounding 52-4 home win over bottom-of-the-table Hunslet yesterday.
The losers of that Oldham-Doncaster game will have another chance to reach the season’s finale in Warrington, by winning a home clash on Sunday, September 21, against the winners of the mini-group comprising teams finishing between fifth and eighth in the table.
Toulouse have accepted the RFL’s invitation to join NL1 for next season.
