POINTS machine Mick Nanyn is to try his hand in Super League next season.

The 26-year-old has signed a one-year deal with Brian McDermott’s Harlequins and he will join up with the London-based club on his return from the World Cup later this year.

Nanyn, who has claimed 346 points in total for the Roughyeds in 2008 to break the new club’s record, exploited a get-out clause in the two-year contract he signed at the beginning of the season to get his move.

He joins fellow newcomers, Australian trio Luke Dorn (Castleford), Luke Williamson (Manly Sea Eagles) and Chad Robinson (Parramatta Eels) at Harlequins.

“Mick has wanted to play in Super League for a number of years and now he has got his chance,” said Oldham chief executive Chris Hamilton. “We wish him all the best in his career.”

The news arrives the day after Nanyn had the cast around his fractured thumb removed. The former Whitehaven and Widnes star will now bid to sign off his Roughyeds career in style by helping the club achieve glory in the play-offs starting with next week’s home clash with Doncaster.

Promotion or not, the Scotland international’s departure leaves a big gap in the centres, but moves will be made to bring in similarly high-profile performers for next year.

“As (chairman) Bill Quinn has already said on many occasions, if players leave then we will hopefully bring in quality replacements,” added Mr Hamilton.

The National League Two Grand Final at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington, will kick off at 1.30pm on Sunday, September 28. The National League One final will follow at 4pm.

In last night’s NL1 play-off game, Halifax booked their place in next week’s semi-finals by defeating Widnes 32-16.
