RL supporters club launched
Date published: 09 October 2008
A NEW Oldham RLFC Supporters’ Club was launched when fans attended a meeting at Waterhead ARLFC, called by the Roughyeds’ commercial manager Michael Bradshaw.
The new Supporters’ committee, which will also oversee the Junior Roughyeds, will consist of Paul Whalley (chairman), Karen Marrie (secretary), Maureen Woodhead (treasurer) and David Lord (welfare officer).
They will be supported and assisted by a team of fund-raising co-ordinators, comprising so far of Michael Bradshaw, Lynn Pilkington, Joyce Pilkington, Susan Jackson, Neil Dudley, Charlotte Deakin and Geoff Marrie.
More fund-raising co-ordinators are required and anyone who would like to join the team is asked to attend the committee’s first meeting, to be held tonight, also at the Waterhead club, starting at 7pm.
At that meeting the committee will draw up plans for enlisting and recruiting members and will also discuss provisional plans for a full programme of social events running through next season and to be held monthly.
The Supporters’ Club’s objectives will be twofold - to provide fans with a full and varied low-cost social calendar and to raise funds for the parent club.
Among proposed events are an open day to launch the 2009 season; a Valentine’s Day comedy and curry night; a fans’ forum; a family fun day in mid-summer; a race night; and, towards the end of 2009, a Halloween party with similar events at Christmas and New Year.
