DARYL CARDISS, who spent a large chunk of last season on the sidelines, has reaffirmed his commitment to Oldham.
The utility back has signed for another 12 months and adds a vast amount of experience to what is effectively a young squad of players.
The former Wigan, Halifax and Warrington man, who has clocked up 142 appearances in Super League, scoring 46 tries, was restricted to just 14 games for the Roughyeds last season through no fault of his own.
Oldham chief executive Chris Hamilton said: “Daryl appreciated how the club treated him after his bad shoulder injury and was keen to remain here.
“His elusive running is a feature of his play from dummy half, although he has many other attributes as a player.
“Daryl’s experience at the highest level is also a big plus and we believe he is a very good signing for us.”
Cardiss was struck down with injury in only his third outing for the Roughyeds, against Salford City Reds in the Northern Rail Cup at end of February.
While attempting, in vain, to stop Jordan Turner from scoring a try, the 30-year-old dislocated his shoulder.
It was put back in soon afterwards, but he had to undergo reconstruction surgery in mid-March and was out for more than four months.
A product of the Hunslet Boys Club — he turned professional in 1994 before making his Wigan debut two years later — he is the 12th player to agree terms with the Roughyeds for 2009.
Meanwhile, with the deadline for applications having expired, Oldham are nearing the conclusion in their search for a new head coach.
Although no decision has been made on Steve Deakin’s successor, an announcement is expected soon.
