BENSON’S BEAT: Now we must kick on

I THOUGHT we did really well to come back and beat Blackpool after that first-half display.
Nobody wants to hear booing, but supporters spend their well-earned money coming to watch us and they are entitled to their opinion.
I could see it in the players’ faces at half-time that they were affected by the reaction of the crowd. All I can say is that we never went out to play that way. It just happens sometimes and I’m glad we got it right in the end.
I think we were trying too hard in the first half and Blackpool made the most of our errors and full marks to them, But we got smarter the longer the game went on.
Thomas Coyle got a knock early on and for a short time he didn’t know where he was, which didn’t help our cause.
All credit to Blackpool. They took their chances well and look a decent outfit, but I was always confident we would turn it around.
I had plenty to say at the break, but I didn’t have a go at the players. That wasn’t necessary.
It was important to be constructive, because never for a minute did I think we would not go on and win the game and the players thought that as well.
We showed excellent character to come back and score 32 points in the second half. Our completion rate improved and we managed to cut out the silly penalties, so there were a lot of positives there.
It’s all about learning to build pressure on our opponents a lot sooner, because we know we can score points from anywhere on the field.
We’ve got to find ourselves. It’s been a period of trial and error and now it’s time to consolidate.
Hopefully we can push on from here.
It was vital we got off to a winning start and we got it, eventually.
We’ll now turn our attention to Keighley on Sunday and carry on from where we left off in the second half.
