Four-game ban hanging over Kerr

WAYNE Kerr is set to miss up to four Oldham matches through suspension.
The powerful prop forward steps in front of the RFL disciplinary panel in Leeds tomorrow night charged with a Grade C reckless high tackle, which carries between a one and four-game ban.
The incident occurred in the Roughyeds’ clash at Keighley two weeks ago, in which Kerr collided with Cougars kicker Jon Presley six minutes from time after the ball had been played.
Depending on the decision of the review panel, the Ireland international will definitely miss this weekend’s Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth round tie at home to Lezignan plus any or all of Co-operative Championship One fixtures against Rochdale, Dewsbury and Swinton. Kerr will be accompanied at tomorrow’s hearing by Roughyeds chief executive Chris Hamilton.
Richard Mervill, who missed yesterday’s emphatic 66-14 home win over Workington due to work commitments, is a candidate to replace Kerr in the line-up for the French test along with Luke Menzies.
It remains to be seen whether Danny Halliwell will make that game. The centre tweaked a hamstring in the pre-match warm-up at Boundary Park and was withdrawn at half-time with Oldham in a comfortable position at 34-8 up.
He will be assessed at training this week, along with Robert Roberts (ribs), Tommy Goulden (hamstring) and Stevie Gibbons (shoulder), all of whom missed the game through injury.
Craig Robinson emerged from the bench following a lay-off with an elbow injury and played his part in the win over the Cumbrians without suffering any apparent adverse reaction. Match report on Page 22.
Oldham now sit at the top of the Co-operative Championship One table, a point clear of Swinton and Dewsbury having played a game more.
