RUGBY Oldham is sponsoring the Roughyeds reserves side for the second season running.
As was the case last season — the first time the Oldham club had run a second-string side since 2004 — the reserves squad will run out in trust-branded run-out tops, while all players who have graduated through the local amateur scene will receive individual sponsorships from Rugby Oldham.
Last season, five players — Anthony Bingham, Scott Mansfield, Mark Smith, Chris Clarke and Ben Heaton — graduated from the reserves set-up run by coaching duo John Hough and Leo Casey to claim two-year professional contracts.
The side side kicked off its reserves team first division season with a 50-30 home defeat to Hunslet at Sedgley Park on Friday night.
First-team prop Wayne Kerr claimed a hat-trick of tries for Oldham, whose other try scorer on the night was Heaton, with Smith kicking a total of five goals.
Reserves team: Heaton; Onyango, Hinsley, Littler, Ward; J Knight, Bradley; I'Anson, O'Brien, Kerr, Clarke, Smith, Mansfield. Subs: Eyres, Sutton, D Knight, Orwell.
