Winger Greenwood is feeling left out

LEE GREENWOOD admits he is experiencing tough times at the moment.

The former Halifax man, engaged in a battle with fellow flyer Lucas Onyango for the left-wing berth in Tony Benson’s Roughyeds side, hasn’t had much of a chance to impress of late.

He didn’t see much of the ball in the recent win over Swinton and admits to a level of personal frustration that he has was unable to show what he is capable of – though he also accepts that it is partly down to tactics.

“It is just the way the team is set up,” said Greenwood, who will hope he has done enough to keep his place for next week’s Featherstone quarter-final tie in the Northern Rail Cup.

“The attack comes predominantly down the right side with people like Dave Allen, who runs such terrific lines and has very good hands, whereas on my side we tend to have the workers like Tommy Goulden, Chris Baines and Paul O’Connor.

“Perhaps I should suggest to Andy Ballard that we swap wings - though with the points records he is chasing I’m not sure there is any chance of him agreeing to that!”

Meanwhile, former Roughyeds centre Mick Nanyn scored twice on debut for Leigh last night but couldn’t prevent his new side from slipping to a 30-24 loss at Featherstone in the Co-operative Championship. Nanyn is on loan from Harlequins.

Oldham’s players and coaching staff convened after training to watch the action closely, with Rovers providing the opposition in the Northern Rail Cup clash which takes place in Leigh next Thursday.

Oldham’s reserves team takes on Barrow at Sedgley Park tomorrow (2.30pm).
