Benson pleading for on-the-ball refereeing

CONTROL the ruck, control the game.

That is the mantra for tomorrow night as far as Roughyeds coach Tony Benson is concerned.

And while he has been drilling into his men the need to prevent Featherstone from getting too many quick play-the-balls, Benson also hopes that appointed referee Gareth Hewer doesn't allow the Championship outfit scope to slow up the Roughyeds illegally.

“We have been working hard behind the scenes,” Benson said.

“There is a determination to put on a good show and a lot is riding on the game.

“If we can slow them up and get a roll on ourselves then there is no reason why we can’t get a positive result on the night.

“A lot could depend on the referee and we would hope that he doesn’t allow them to lay all over us too much.

“If that doesn't happen then we definitely have a chance.”

Local official Robert Hicks is the video referee for the game tomorrow night.

THE DRAW for the semi-finals of the Northern Rail Cup takes place on Sunday, June 7, live on BBC Radio Leeds.

Aside from Oldham’s game against Featherstone tomorrow, Saturday’s last-eight ties see Barrow take on Dewsbury and Widnes host York, with Halifax taking on Leigh the following day.
