Removed as director by ‘clerical error’
ROUGHYEDS chairman Bill Quinn has reaffirmed his commitment to taking the club forward — despite officially resigning his position as director.
Publicly accessible records at Companies House state that Quinn left his post two days before Oldham’s Challenge Cup tie against Gateshead last month, but the man himself has said it was merely a clerical error made on his behalf which is in the process of being rectified.
Talking to the Chronicle, the 43-year-old majority shareholder also issued an open invitation to any supporter groups who wish to get involved alongside him to assist with the running of the Championship One club.
“A number of mistakes were made with regards to directorships with Oldham and other companies I am involved with and I am getting them all sorted right now,” said Quinn, who said he will be as busy as ever with club business in the lead-up to the York game later this month.
“It is a non-story. I am fully committed to the club and we are all focused now on winning the games we have left in order to gain promotion.
“If Dewsbury slip up, as Barrow did last year, we want to be in a position to take advantage. We play them ourselves, so that game presents a good opportunity for us, and we would really prefer automatic promotion to going through the play-offs.
“Then again, Oldham seems to be a club which always does things the hard way.
“Off the field, I still believe we need more help. There should be more people assisting the club and it shouldn’t be down to just two or three.
“There has been talk of establishing squad-builder funds, or supporter groups that would meet regularly with the board to provide a voice for the supporters.
“I am very happy to do that, or sell some shares — anything to help move the club forward.
“I am open to offers and am more than happy to sit down and discuss things in a sensible manner.”
Oldham’s squad took part in a team-building session last night, with only Thomas Coyle (ankle) and Robert Roberts unable to take part.
Roberts is nursing a sore knee which has been strapped up, though the suspicion of physio Rachael Johnson is that the problem could relate to the quad muscle.
