RESERVE-TEAM coach John Hough was in reflective mood after Oldham’s 50-18 defeat at Whitehaven.

Returning from a two-week break, the Roughyeds were hoping to complete a hat-trick of wins. Instead, they found themselves 34-4 behind at the break.

Hough said: “I was disappointed with the first-half display, but I told them to go out and win the second half.

“We didn’t quite manage to do that, but I was still relatively pleased at the way they responded against a side who fielded four or five first-teamers. We didn’t throw in the towel, which was good.”

Austin Barraclough scored two tries and there was one apiece from Todd O’Brien and Ben Heaton, who went over in the very last play. Ross Coates added one conversion.

Oldham entertain York at Sedgley Park on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm).

Hough added: “We’ve got 10 games left and we play every week, so hopefully we can build some momentum.”
