Roughyeds rule out March move

PAUL MARCH will not be coming to Oldham, the club have said.
Having been sacked from his player-coach role at promotion rivals York on Monday, the Dewsbury-born half-back is currently on the lookout for a new employer.

But while speculation had linked the 30-year-old with a move to the Roughyeds, chief executive Chris Hamilton told the Chronicle there was no chance of him making such a switch.

Instead, March now appears set for a move to fellow Co-operative Championship One side Hunslet.

The Hawks are searching for a new coach following the departure of Graeme Hallas a week ago and the ex-Wakefield and Huddersfield player fits the bill, though it remains to be seen if terms can be agreed.

The Oldham squad trained last night without Marcus St Hilaire, who was receiving treatment on a calf injury. The centre had already been ruled out of this weekend’s Northern Rail Nines action in Blackpool.

Phil Joseph (hip) was also unable to join in with the rest of the squad, as was Luke Menzies (ankle), with both players getting medical attention instead.

Two players hoping to make it this weekend despite injuries are Jamie I’Anson and Neil Roden.

An x-ray on I’Anson’s arm didn’t show a break, and though he is to return to hospital for a further inspection of the injury early next week he may choose to play through the pain in between.

Roden has injuries to both a knee and a shoulder and had treatment on both, though he is expected to get the green light to take his place in a 15-man squad which travels to Blackpool.

THE funeral of Oldham RL legend Bernard Ganley took place today at St Vincent’s RC Church in Knutsford.
