OLDHAM Roughyeds are to run two fun and fitness summer camps, at which the club's stars will help to give youngsters a taste of rugby league.
Set up in partnership with sponsors Tesco Extra on Huddersfield Road, the superstore’s community champion Caroline Dean was present at Boundary Park two weeks ago for the Keighley game at which a cheque was presented to the club’s marketing manager Julie Cleave.
“As the store’s community champion, it is my job to see that Tesco become better neighbours in the community,” said Caroline.
“I am passionate about pushing positive activities for young people and, as such, I was delighted to get involved with the Roughyeds’ summer camps on Tesco’s behalf.
“We are delighted to forge this partnership with Roughyeds and it may be the start of more initiatives with the club in the future.”
The two week-long camps will be held at the Roughyeds’ training base at Chadderton FC and are aimed at children aged between eight and 16. They will be delivered by members of the club’s playing squad.
Starting on Monday, August 3, and Monday, August 17, each camp will run from 10am to 2pm on Monday to Thursday inclusive and from 10am to noon on the Friday.
Each participant will receive a Roughyeds Rugby fun and fitness certificate, a free T-shirt, a ticket to the Roughyeds’ Co-operative Championship One game with York City Knights at Boundary Park on August 23 and signed photographs.
The participants will be involved in an on-field presentation to the crowd at the York game.
The cost of each course is £40 per child. Two children can be booked on to a course for £70 and any child attending both courses can do so for £70 (please note that a separate registration form is required for each child).
For further information or for details of how to acquire an enrolment form contact the club on (0161) 6283677.
