Spicing it up for fans

ROUGHYEDS players curried favour with supporters last week in an informal get-together at Delight Spice.
The Chadderton event was organised by head coach Tony Benson and commercial manager Julie Cleave, in order to rally everyone to the cause ahead of the forthcoming Co-operative Championship One play-off campaign.
There was plenty of banter on offer as everyone tucked in to the food and as far as Benson was concerned, the exercise was a burning success.
“The word we were getting was that the supporters weren’t getting enough time to mix with the players,” he said.
“So it was good for both of us, pulling everyone closer right before we enter the end of season play-offs.
“It was an informal occasion with no guest speakers. It provided the chance for everyone to get together in a relaxed atmosphere.
“There was a good mixture of people and a lot of laughs were had. I know that the players certainly enjoyed it and it seemed like the fans there did as well.
“Some good stories came out and having Jamie I’Anson and Wayne Kerr on the same table was a stroke of luck!
“I thought it would be a good idea and I am glad it went ahead as it proved to be very positive.”
