Ashe cleared to face Swinton

MATTY ASHE will be eligible for selection for Oldham against his parent club Swinton.

Speculation was rife that the 24-year-old half-back, who answered a late SOS call to play off the bench at Hunslet on Sunday, would be prevented from turning out in the Boundary Park elimination play-off tie on Sunday as a condition of the extension to the arrangement which saw him initially arrive at the Roughyeds on a one-month back in May.

But Oldham chief executive Chris Hamilton confirmed that no clause exists in the deal that would prevent Ashe, a former Junior Kiwi representative under Tony Benson, from playing.

“He is here on loan until the end of the season and so can play for us until then,” Mr Hamilton said.

Ashe suffered an eye injury in the Hunslet defeat and will be examined at tonight’s training session along with Phil Joseph, who picked up a hamstring strain in the same game.

Craig Littler, whose late withdrawal promoted Ashe to the bench, will also be checked on after missing the game due to illness, as will Lee Greenwood (shoulder) and Tommy Goulden (suspected swine flu).

Ashe will aim to push scrum-half Thomas Coyle — strongly linked with a move to Widnes Vikings for next season — for a starting spot against the Lions.

The game, which has a confirmed kick-off time of 3pm, is all-pay at the turnstiles. Normal admission prices apply and the gate is a shared one.

SALFORD starlet Jordan Turner will leave the reds to join Hull FC next season, it has been confirmed.

The Oldham-born 20-year-old turned down an improved three-year deal at The Willows to make the switch and the respective clubs now have to agree a compensation fee.

LEEDS Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield has not broken his cheekbone as was feared and could be fit to play in the Super League champions’ trip to Salford on Friday, their last match of the regular season.
