PROSPECTIVE Roughyeds owner Chris Hamilton is waiting on documents which will allow him to officially take control of the club.

Having agreed to a deal that will see Bill Quinn hand over his 75-per-cent shareholding in exchange for an unspecified sum, the matter is now in the hands of solicitors.

While it is not yet cut and dried, the hope is that the paperwork will be completed and signed off by the pair tomorrow.

That would allow Hamilton enough time to pay the £47,000 tax bill which would avoid the club being wound up next Wednesday.

Planning for next season could then begin in earnest, with one of the first steps likely to be negotiating a new contract and playing budget with coach Tony Benson, who took Oldham to a play-off final despite operating against a severely difficult background of high-profile player departures and boardroom upheaval.

No players are currently contracted to the club and pre-season training is due to begin on Monday, November 16.

n FORMER Wigan and Great Britain winger Brian Carney is to stay on part time with Warrington as the club’s first player-welfare and services officer.

The 33–year–old dual–code Irishman signed a short–term contract with the Wolves this summer but made only four appearances before breaking his arm.
