RUGBY: TONY Benson felt his side could and should have beaten Sheffield Eagles on Monday night.
A promising display ended in disappointment as the club exited the Northern Rail Cup via a 24-22 defeat at Sedgley Park, but Benson vowed that his team would bounce back quickly.
“Just two 10-minute patches let us down, as well as a couple of bounces of the ball over the try line,” said Benson, who was down to two substitutes in the second half due to injuries to Mick Fogerty (chest) and Danny Whitmore (neck).
“We are all disappointed but we are a young side and will learn from it.
“What we did wrong last week we improved on and our attack was a lot more cohesive, which is encouraging.
“Overall, I think this competition has done the job for us.
“What I have found out is that the whole squad from one to 25 is worthy of a spot.”
