Roughyeds pair seek change of fortune

TWO of the Roughyeds' bright young prospects are battling against injury and hoping for a change of luck

Hooker Austen Barrowclough scored three tries in the reserves' friendly at Dewsbury despite a shoulder injury requiring surgery.

And on his debut in a pre-season reserves run-out at Keighley, Barrowclough's fellow front-row man Ben Marsden suffered a hairline fracture of the cheekbone which has kept him sidelined ever since.

It has been a frustrating few weeks for Ben," said chairman Chris Hamilton.

"How unlucky can you be to get an injury like that in your very first game for your home-town club?

"He hasn't done contact work yet, but he is getting closer and it shouldn't be long now before he is back in action.

"As for Austen, he has been advised that he can carry on playing while he is waiting for his operation.”

Oldham have received another shirt sponsorship deal covering the 2010 season.

Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre is the latest commercial concern to put its weight behind the town's professional rugby league club.

Spindles will receive increased exposure from a revamped deal which will see its logo and title take up a prime position on the front of the jersey as opposed to the sleeve in 2008 and 2009.
