TONY BENSON . . . respect for Monday’s opponents.
WORKINGTON Town look set to give Tony Benson's Roughyeds a tough ride at Sedgley Park RUFC on Easter Monday (3pm kick-off).
The Cumbrians had no game today due to a fixture rearrangement and head to Whitefield on the back of a Co-operative Championship One record which has seen them win two and lose two.
Coach Gary Charlton has overseen a notable 32-22 home victory over York and a 44-0 whitewash against Gateshead last week, with defeats coming at South Wales on the league season's opening weekend (22-20) and at Hornets RL two games later (32-24).
Those results followed a Northern Rail Cup campaign which also brought two wins, over local rivals Whitehaven (22-14) and Gateshead (26-12) and losses to Keighley (38-10) and Swinton (19-18).
"Workington will be confident after 'nilling' Gateshead," said Benson, whose side were in action against Hornets RL today.
"I saw them against Rochdale and after a slow start, which may have been something to do with the long coach journey down, they played very well in the second half.
"We are expecting a good game from them."
Town currently have two forwards on loan from Barrow, Ruairi McGoff and Jamie Butler, and another former Raiders man Liam Finch will be pulling the strings at half-back.
