RUGBY LEAGUE:
ROUGHYEDS reserves’ four-match winning run ended in a 36-12 defeat at Whitehaven when forward Carl Fields, who hails from the Higginshaw club, produced an eye-catching display on debut.
Prop Michael Cadd and winger Danny Chetwynd scored tries for Oldham, both improved by Mick Diveney.
Roughyeds trailed 12-6 at half-time but pulled level at 12-12 before the Cumbrians surged clear in the last 20 minutes.
Michael Ward was sin-binned for dissent late in the first half, while second-row man Johnny Walker departed with a head injury in the seventh minute, never to return, and winger Sean Hamilton dislocated a shoulder midway through the opening period.
Prop Ben Mellor sustained a suspected broken nose and Dean Hatton had to quit with a knee injury 15 minutes from time.
John Hough’s team are in action against Dewsbury Rams at the Whitebank Stadium on Friday.
