CRICKET: OLDHAM Cricket Club’s appeal against a 15-point deduction in the Lake Garage CLL has been rejected.

The penalty was imposed when it was discovered they had failed to register overseas amateur Keelan Gossayn for the 2010 season.

Oldham claimed there had been an oversight in registering the South African when his flight to England was delayed by the ash cloud caused by the Iceland volcano eruption.

Oldham lodged an appeal, but this was rejected by the league’s management committee last night on the grounds that the club’s letter was not received on time, did not contain a £50 deposit and did not contain the grounds for an appeal.

CROMPTON professional Matthew Needham has been fined £100 by the CLL and warned over his future conduct after admitting bowling a deliberate beamer against a Milnrow batsmen during a recent fixture between the clubs.

Needham, who said he had been provoked, apologised to the league.

ROYTON’S Luke Procter hit 97 for Lancashire as the Red Rose county beat West Indies ‘A’ by 53 runs at Old Trafford yesterday.

Procter hit two sixes and nine fours as Lancs made 271 from their 50 overs.

He was removed three runs short of his century by former Crompton professional Kevin Stoute, who went on to take career-best figures of eight for 52.

Procter took his revenge against Stoute, dismissing him for 19 in his 10-over spell which produced figures of two for 34.
