Roughyeds supporters to cast verdicts

Date published: 12 August 2010

WITH the end of an already-memorable season in sight, Roughyeds fans are invited to start thinking about which players have impressed most at both first team and reserve team levels.

Tony Benson's first-team squad is assured of at least a second-place finish in Co-operative Championship One and with only one away game still to be played in the regular season, it boasts a 100-per-cent record on its travels in league competition this year with nine wins from nine outings.

John Hough's second team, fifth in the 2010 Reserves Championship, boast the highest placing of the three Championship One clubs in a division dominated by higher-ranked sides.

For the first time this year there will be two separate presentation evenings at Whitebank.

The first is for the reserves on the evening of Saturday, August 21, followed by the senior squad's presentations on the evening of Saturday, September 4, with both timed to start at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the August 21 event, and voting papers for reserve team player of the year, are available now. Tickets are priced at £7.50, including two-course buffet meal, and they will be available before and after Saturday's game as well as from the club's offices in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton during office hours.

Voting papers will be in the social club on Saturday and also on the turnstiles and anyone not going to the game can collect them at Lansdowne Road. They can be completed and left in ballot boxes at the club on Saturday or Sunday, and there is a Tuesday (5pm) deadline.

Details of the first team's presentation night will be announced later, but voting papers for player of the year and junior supporters' (under-16s) player of the year are now available from the office and they will also be on the turnstiles on Sunday, with ballot boxes in the club for the posting of completed forms.

Deadline for first-team votes is 5pm on Friday, August 27.
