Have your say on team’s star man

THE ROUGHYEDS supporters' player of the year award is to be sponsored by the Chronicle.
It means fans can have their say, through their local newspaper, on the one player they think has made the biggest difference in what has already been a remarkable season of success for the club — with the possibility of promotion to the Co-operative Championship through the play-offs still very much alive.
The 2010 campaign is the first the club has spent at their 'own' ground, the Whitebank Stadium, since the demise of Watersheddings.
And, armed with a squad of young, hungry and local players, coach Tony Benson has guided Oldham to second place in Co-operative Championship One with just one regular-season game away at London Skolars on Friday week to come.
Contenders for the fans' award are spread through the squad. Among them, full-back Paul O'Connor has been a consistent bundle of energy in what has possibly been his finest season in Oldham colours; half-back Neil Roden has rolled back the years and the Roughyeds have still to lose in the league this season when his guiding hands have been involved; home-grown centre Mick Fogerty has weighed in with plenty of crucial tries; and former Oldham St Anne's forward Chris Clarke has performed superbly in his debut season in the first-team squad.
Plenty of other players have just cause to hope their names crop up in the nominations.
To vote, send an email to sport@oldham-chronicle.co.uk giving your name, the player’s name and the reasons for your choice.
Closing date for voting is Friday, August 27.
