Roughyeds’ record potential

OLDHAM Roughyeds players face their final Co-operative Championship One game of the season at London Skolars tonight (6.30pm kick-off).

And though the game makes no difference in terms of the team's final league placing — whatever happens at the New River Stadium, Tony Benson's boys will be lining up in a home play-off tie with York on Sunday, September 12 — there is a big prize at stake.

In the entire 134-year history of the club, no Oldham RL side has EVER gone through an entire league campaign unbeaten away from home.

Yet that is what the Roughyeds’ class of 2010 will achieve should they avoid defeat against a Skolars side who have managed just two victories in their 19 fixtures so far this season.

Sinfield plans starring role

LEEDS Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield is a front-runner in the race to claim the Lance Todd man-of-the-match trophy in tomorrow's Carnegie Challenge Cup final at Wembley (2.30pm kick-off).

The Oldhamer, who took his first steps in the game at the Waterhead club, has been quoted as 6-1 joint favourite for the prize by William Hill along with mercurial Warrington stand-off Lee Briers.

Sinfield is aiming to win the award for a second time, having been named top performer in the Rhinos’ 25-24 defeat by Hull FC in the 2005 final at Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.
