Forward power spurs reserves

POWERFUL props Tom Wood-Hulme and Michael Cadd each scored two tries as Roughyeds’ reserves defeated Dewsbury Rams 36-12 at the Whitebank Stadium last night in the first of their three pre-season friendlies.
Heavy conditions dictated that it was largely a forward battle and in that department Roughyeds had too many big guns for a Rams side which included former Oldham hooker Matty Brooks.
Roughyeds centre Alistair Williams was sin-binned for a high tackle midway through the second half, but by that time John Hough’s men led 30-12.
Five of Oldham’s six tries were scored by props — Crosfields triallist Matty Barber was the other forward to score — while scrum-half Tommy Connick also went over.
Stand-off Jamie Dallimore, on debut, converted all six tries.
