Benson disappointed by Cougars loss

MISSED opportunities, individual errors and a lack of direction.
Those were the main reasons, said coach Tony Benson, for another Roughyeds defeat, this time by
40-14 at Keighley Cougars, where the out-of-sorts visitors failed to score while playing down the slope in the first half.
A “disappointed” Benson summed up like this: “It was a funny game. We lost by 26 points yet in many ways it was a big improvement on how we played against Swinton Lions last week.
“Considering the score, our statistics were pretty good and that's why I say it was a funny game to appraise. We didn't give many penalties away and the number of tackles missed was pretty much par for the course.
“Individual errors cost us tries when we had the ball. And when Keighley had it we were vulnerable on our left side early on.
“We closed that up in the second half, but then they came at us down the middle.
“We had a couple of vulnerable areas and we didn't fix them quickly enough. We also lacked direction, but you can only play with what you've got.
“We missed four clear-cut try-scoring chances — three in the first half and one in the second — and if you take opportunities like that it becomes a completely different game.”
