Forber loan deal is extended

OLDHAM RL Club have negotiated an extension of Carl Forber's initial one-month loan from Co-operative Championship One leaders Swinton.

The month was up after last Sunday's 40-20 defeat by South Wales Scorpions in Caerphilly, but further talks between the clubs have resulted in the goalkicking half-back getting his wish to continue playing for the Roughyeds.

He stays on a week-by-week basis, however, and as Swinton can recall him at 72 hours' notice.

Furthermore, he will not be allowed to play against the Lions when Oldham visit them at The Willows next Friday, May 27 (8pm).

Said Roughyeds chairman Chris Hamilton: "We are pleased to keep hold of Carl, and so is he.

“He was lacking match fitness when he first joined us, but he is now getting that fitness up to speed."

Head coach Tony Benson will welcome a weekend off for his injury-hit squad, but the reserves are in action on Sunday against Leigh Centurions at Leigh Sports Village (12.45pm kick off). The game is a curtain-raiser to Leigh's Championship clash with Hunslet Hawks, which starts at 3pm.

A 22-man squad has been named for the clash, featuring the 20 men named for the last game against Featherstone plus prop pair Luke Sutton and Michael Cadd.

Oldham fans intending to leave after the reserves game must use turnstile 3. They will be charged £16 (adult) and £8 (child), but they will be refunded £10 and £5 respectively if they leave before the Leigh-Hunslet game kicks off.

Roughyeds are urging fans to support next Thursday's dinner at the Whitebank Stadium.

Tickets cost £30 per head or £300 plus vat for a corporate table of ten. Ring the club on (0161) 628 3677.
