Greenwood gets chance to impress

HIGHLY-RATED scrum-half Brett Greenwood, formerly of Bradford Bulls, will make his Oldham RL debut against Hunslet at the South Leeds Stadium tomorrow (8pm) in an Extended Scholarship game for under-18s.

Nathan Bevan, who wore the No. 7 shirt in Oldham's 40-0 win against Workington Town at Whitebank in their opening game a fortnight ago, will start again, but Greenwood will get his chance off the bench.

"He didn't figure against Workington," said coach Phil Costin, "but a lot of respected judges think highly of him, so it will be interesting to see how he goes.

“The team will be similar to last time out, but I have tweaked it a little bit to give an opportunity to a few boys who didn't play against Workington."

Mark Eastup, who was once with Widnes Vikings, is one of those and he will debut on the wing in a reshaped back division caused by the switch from centre to second row of the strong-running Wiganer Tom Breheny.

Ex-Salford second-rower Grant Hudson, named man of the match in the win against the Cumbrians, is unavailable so Tom Breheny moves into the forwards to provide additional strength and to compensate for the loss of Hudson's bulk, speed and power.

The Oldham pack will include twins Ben and Jack Breheny and their cousin Tom, while the backs will feature Conal Bevan on the wing with his brother Nathan at scrum-half in a line-up described by Costin as a "real family affair".

Costin and club chairman Chris Hamilton watched Hunslet lose at Leigh and picked out the Hawks' hooker and scrum-half, their chief play-makers, as the Yorkshire side's danger men.
