Youngsters hope to impress

YOUNG hopefuls in Oldham RL Club’s under-18s squad will have one eye on the future tonight when they play their last game of the season against Leigh Centurions at Whitebank (7.30pm kick-off).

The next step up for these members of the club’s Extended Scholarship scheme is to graduate to John Hough’s talented reserve-team squad, from which Jamie Dallimore, Danny Langtree and David Cookson have signed professional contracts for 2012.

Roughyeds are one of the few teams in Championship One to run two teams, let alone three, but Hough is convinced the club is on the right lines in building from the bottom with a clearly-defined development policy.

“To launch the under-18s was a major milestone.” he said. “There are some exciting prospects in the side and we will eventually reap the rewards of this investment, just as we are now enjoying the benefits of the reserve-team squad, which we set up in 2008.”

Oldham under-18s: Danny Peet; Chris Jarvis, Conal Bevan, Nick Ryan, Jake Evans; Tom Shaw, Nathan Bevan; Ben Breheny, Aaron Morris, Jordan Morris, Tom Breheny, Jack Breheny, Craig Lawton. Subs: Grant Hudson, Adam White, Andrew Ball, Brett Greenwood.

Admission is £4 adults, £2 concessions.

A PRESENTATION night for the Scholarship squad will be held in the Whitebank social club on Friday, September 9 (7.30pm).
Admission is £3 adults, including pie and peas, children free. Tickets are on sale at the Roughyeds office in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton.
