Winger signs Oldham deal

OLDHAM RL winger Shaun Robinson is the first member of the current senior squad to sign a new contract for 2012.

The 22-year-old former Saddleworth Rangers player, a hit in his first season of Championship One rugby, has shaken hands on a deal to November 30 next year to follow the lead set by the reserve team’s Jamie Dallimore, Danny Langtree and David Cookson.

“Contract talks were easy because I didn’t want to go anywhere else,” said Robinson, who has scored seven tries in 17 games for his home-town club since making his debut against Swinton Lions at the Whitebank at the end of March.

Tony Benson’s men, beaten twice already by Workington, get a third crack at them at Derwent Park in Sunday’s final game of the regular league season — a tough call for Roughyeds, but a game they will be keen to win in order to gain a psychological advantage as they head into the play-offs.

The Junction Inn, Ripponden Road, has confirmed that it will run a supporters’ coach to the game (ring 633 2759 to book), while ORSA, the Roughyeds' supporters’ association, will hold its monthly meeting at Whitebank tonight (8pm).
