Selection poser for Oldham coach
Date published: 26 March 2012
PAUL Smith and Mark McCully will give Oldham boss Tony Benson selection options for Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with Barrow at Whitebank (3pm).
Neither played in Friday’s 22-14 Challenge Cup win over Egremont because of work.
Back-row man Smith and centre McCully are two of the club’s most experienced players and Benson may go for knowhow against a Barrow side chasing its seventh win in a row.
The Cumbrians beat Lezignan 32-22 at Craven Park in the Challenge Cup yesterday after trailing 16-0 early on.
Roughyeds winger Paul Ballard may also be back, in which case he would clash with younger brother Andy, Barrow’s full-back and former Oldham winger.
Ballard jnr scored 254 points (93 goals and 17 tries) in 18 games for Roughyeds in 2009 before leaving for Craven Park with Danny Halliwell, James Coyle and David Allen.
